EU-wide driving licence withdrawal
EU-wide driving licence withdrawal
According to voices in transport policy - although the opinion of the EU Parliament is still pending - the withdrawal of driving licences is to be enforced throughout the EU in future. The majority of member states also voted in favour of this project.
The ultimate aim is to ensure that a person who has violated a road traffic regulation in one of the EU Member States is also sanctioned in other countries. This means that the person concerned will no longer be allowed to drive there. However, the provision should not apply without further ado or unconditionally. It must be a notable offence against a road traffic regulation. Furthermore, the EU-wide ban does not have to be issued if it would not lead to a driving licence being withdrawn in the Member State concerned. At that moment, it may be a very serious offence under German law, for example. However, if the country concerned does not punish this offence equally, it is therefore not required that the driving licence be withdrawn or withdrawn EU-wide.
However, it will still take some time before it comes into force, depending, among other things, on the European Parliament, as already mentioned.
