Swapping instead of charging
Inspired by China, Stellantis would also like to offer battery exchange stations for Europe. They are intended to serve as an alternative to conventional charging and to save time. The exchange should only take 5 minutes. As early as next year, 100 car sharing vehicles in Madrid will be converted in this way and some of these stations will be offered. This concept is intended to increase the use of the vehicle and possibly even open up the possibility of giving more people access to electric cars. Stellantis is considering offering a subscription. Customers would be able to purchase the car without a battery and book a replacement service. This is intended to reduce the purchase costs. The ability to change the batteries quickly and easily can also be integrated into the cars quite simply without having to change the vehicle platforms. The advantage is not only that the car is ready to drive again more quickly. It is also much easier on the battery if it can be slowly recharged after removal. This makes it last longer. The classic fast chargers are practical, but not good for the battery. This procedure can also be used for existing vehicles. This not only keeps them technically up to date, but may also increase their range. The only current disadvantage is that the corresponding network must first be installed and expanded in order to ensure rapid installation and removal.
